Who Is MCBIA?

The Marion County Building Industry Association (MCBIA) is a professional not-for-profit trade organization dedicated to the betterment of the construction industry and the community.  We are supported by the Florida Home Builders of Florida (FHBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  Our goals are to:

• Monitor and take a proactive role in governmental and regulatory activities to allow for sustainable and affordable growth
• Provide continuing education that enhances our members ability to successfully conduct business
• Create opportunities to exchange ideas     
• Support initiatives that benefit our community

Our Association consists of a diverse membership.  From Residential to Commercial Builders, to subcontractors who provide a construction service or product to build a home or business, to service based businesses like financial institutions, accounting and law practices, real estate, and title companies, we have a member to meet your needs.

Our volunteer leadership team is elected by the membership and works numerous hours to carry out the mission and goals of the MCBIA.  Working in partnership with the CEO, the Executive Committee provides support to the Board of Directors in the overall management of the Association business.  Along with the CEO, the Board of Directors directs and guides policy, financial and overall planning, and the management of the MCBIA.  

 

2010 MCBIA Executive Officers

	Chad Johannesen, President Chad is the Vice President and Division Manager of Maronda Homes in Ocala.  In addition to his role as the President, he is the Chairperson of the Governmental and Industry Issues and it is clear that his strength is protecting the viability of the building industry.  Chad has also been recognized for his contributions toward membership of the MCBIA by receiving the Builder of the Year and Spike of the Year awards.  He continues his dedication to the betterment of the industry serving as a FHBA Director and a NAHB Director.  Chad enjoys many past times and is happiest spending time with his family and eating a nicely prepared meal (that he usually prepares!).  He is also the Co-Chairperson for the local campaign to "VOTE NO ON 4".
	Jerry Guerra, Vice President (President elect): Jerry is a very diverse leader among our members.  As a Builder member with Thoroughbred Builders and an Associate member with Bailey Industries he easily understands the needs of both membership types.  As past Chairperson of Education, he worked closely with the Marion Technical Institute and Future Builders of America students to continue the tradition of home building.  He is currntly the Co-Chair for the Membership/Ambassador Committee.  Along with his wife Barbara and 3 children, he stays busy enjoying life and looking for the positive perspective.
	Linda Gygax, Associate Vice President:  Linda is a top producing agent with /Lossing Strickland Insurance and is one of our hardest working volunteers, always willing to help with the big things and she never minds getting her hands dirty for the little things.  As a member for over five (5) years she has been a vital part of our Associates Council, Parade of Homes, Sporting Committee, Membership Committee and numerous other committees.  This year she is a FHBA Director and Chairperson for the Ambassadors and Membership Committee.  As a Packers fan it is no surprise that Linda is famous for her bratwurst at our golf tournaments.
	Paul Higginbottom, Treasurer:  Paul has the power of the Internet behind him as the oo-owner of Reora Inc.providing websites, IT consulting and more. He brings to the leadership a concise and different perspective.  He has won Rookie of the year and the 2009 Service award.  Paul can often be found enjoying life in the country.
	George Gibson, Secretary:   Bowyer-Singleton and Associates is where George calls home as the Manager of the office in Ocala.  His dedication and passion for the building industry shows through the support of many industry issues like impact fees, springs protection, and Amendment 4.  A new and upcoming leader of the MCBIA, he is always ready to lend a hand.  He serves as a volunteer leader for several organizations throughout Marion County, including the Literacy Council, Hale Academy, and the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce.  His real home is beside his wife and three (3) lovely children.
	Joshua Klugger, Immediate Past President:  Josh is co-owner of Center State Construction company who has been a member for (20) years.  In recent years, Josh has contributed to the success of the Parade of Homes and his company has won Builder of the Year several times and has also built several Association houses, with proceeds from the sale benefiting the MCBIA.  Josh can often be found on the drag racing tracks around the country.
	Patricia Teal, Immediate Past Associate Vice President:  For almost five (5) years, Patricia, Community Relations Manager with the Ocala Star Banner has supported the MCBIA in many ways.  Holding the office of Associate Vice President for two (2) years and Parade of Homes Co-Chair for three (3) years, Patricia is a strong force behind several events.  Her work as an Associate has sparked many new ideas and her expertise in the community relations business has been a huge help to many members. She has also won the President's Outstanding award in 2008 and 2009. She enjoys a little "r&r" with her husband Justin and her two (2) beautiful daughters.
