Our Community
The MCBIA is honored to help promote and protect home ownership among all people. Home ownership can and should be within the reach of every American. We are also dedicated to the betterment of our community to support various initiatives and projects. Here are a few community initiatives that our members support:

Future Builders of America (FBA) is a nonprofit workforce development and student leadership program of the Florida Home Builders Foundation , the charitable arm of the Florida Home Builders Association. FBA links students in area schools with the local building community. Guest speakers and field trips to building sites along with opportunities for summer and post-graduation employment help introduce students to rewarding opportunities in the residential construction industry. Club meetings also provide for camaraderie and an opportunity for students to improve their leadership and teamwork skills.
The MCBIA is proud to be the sponsor for the Marion Technical Institute's FBA chapter. The MTI Construction Academy gives students hands-on training as well as instruction and mentoring from a wide variety of local industry professionals and organizations. Students receive a well-rounded education in the choice of two career paths, carpentry or construction management. This training enables them to seek immediate internships and employment in the local industry, as well as earn national certification.

Education of our youth is important for the future of our community. JA Worldwide is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.
Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities. Many of our members dedicate hours of their time to JA, teaching grades from 1st-8th.

Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Inc. works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life to develop communities with people in need by building simple, decent, affordable housing. We do this so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
The ultimate goal of Habitat is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth. All of our words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically and religiously unacceptable in our nation and world.

In 1959, a group of Ocala parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities embarked on a journey that we proudly carry forward today by forming the New Hope School for Children. In the early 60s these groups formed all over the U.S. and soon formed into the Association of Retarded Children (ARC). In the early 1970's they changed the name to Association of Retarded Citizens to encompass all ages. In the 80s we dropped the acronym, and we just became known as Arc. However, in February 2007, the ARC Marion Board of directors decided to change the name once again, since we are not affiliated with either the state or national Arc. Our name is Advocacy Resource Center (ARC), because that's what we do; advocate for our clients!
