We have started working on our next edition of the Florida Building Code.
The base code will be the 2021 International Building Codes. For those interested in monitoring or participating in the process it began today, 17 May 2021.

The 2021 I- Codes [the International Building Code (IBC), the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), the International Existing Building Code (IEBC), the International Mechanical Code (IMC), the International Plumbing Code (IPC), the International Residential Code (IRC) and the International Energy Conservation Code (IEEC)]

The 2021 I-Code Resource Handbook – Complete listing “monographs” of all the approved changes to the 2018 IBC, IRC, IMC, IPC, IECC and IEBC.

In keeping with the requirements of Section 553.73(7)(a), Florida Statutes, which require that the Commission adopts an updated Florida Building Code every 3 years through review of the most current updates of the International Codes (I-Codes) and the National Electrical Code (NEC), the 2021 I-Codes changes/monographs will be available for review and general comments via the Commission website/Building Code Information System (BCIS) starting May 17, 2021.

The comment period is for 45 days which will end July 1, 2021. To review the I-Codes changes or submit general comments (Please note alternate language comments are not permitted under this comment period) on a specific I-Code change, please visit the link https://floridabuilding.org/cm/cm_code_srch.aspx and then follow the instructions as outlined in the “2021 ICC comment submittal quick reference guide” as available from the following link:

Please take some time to review the changes to the model codes and familiarize yourself with the updated editions of the I-Codes.

We have noted that the software used by the Florida Building Commission has been upgraded and is now much more user-friendly and has an excellent database for searching for a proposed modification by Chapter and Section.
